If you are looking for a traditional homemade dish, visit Bijelo-Plavi, a restaurant whose menu is based on Slavonian specialties (meat, fish, homemade pasta) and international cuisine alike. With a capacity of 80 seats, this classically decorated restaurant with a long tradition is located in the immediate vicinity of the Osijek football stadium Gradski vrt and city swimming pools. It is a favourite place of business people who want to relax, with an occasional help of a tamburitza band. At the entrance you will be welcomed warmly, and you can also choose a table on the small terrace. We decided to stay in the air-conditioned area, and our late lunch started with a tasty veal ragout soup and Baranja salad with slices of zander, tomato, eggs and lemon. Both were nice, but the portions are too large for appetisers (which is not necessarily a disadvantage). The service is polite, and the waiter recommended the mains, both fish and meat. The fish dish was zander in mushroom sauce. We would have preferred that the fish was not completely covered with sauce so that we could taste this high-quality ingredient on its own. The beefsteak in truffle sauce was nicely cooked and was the best dish we ordered. Dishes baked under the lid are also highly praised here (especially veal and octopus), but they must be ordered in advance. For dessert we had hazelnut parfait with oranges, strawberries and chocolate sauce. The wine list is based on several carefully selected regional wines, but only two are offered by the glass, so we chose small bottles of superior Belje wines (Chardonnay and Merlot). A few final words: tasty and abundant portions!
