Art Café

Gault&Millau's review

Chef: Dan Cristian ANCA Adorned with gold-framed oil paintings and old black and white photographs, this vintage-themed restaurant rather has the atmosphere of a lively bar – but with a surprisingly extensive food menu, ranging from pastas, to classic European meat dishes and burgers. The homemade ravioli, topped with cherry tomatoes, parmesan, sage, and crunchy pine nuts, is worth a try, while the fork tender duck leg confit, served with potato wedges and a sweet sauce infused with orange and a mild hint of anise, is a sure bet. The wine menu is quite generous, along with local craft beers and spirits, milkshakes and frappés. Fish and seafood aficionados will find more ambitious dishes on the Thursday special menu. Marin & Friends

Calea Timișorii, nr. 30, Arad

European

Chef: Marin POPESCU If you had a friend who could cook – and his name were, say, Marin – this is what his restaurant might be like. Off the beaten track on the south side of the city, close to the bridge, Marin is one of Arad’s gems of hospitality. The design is simple and bright, the kitchen is open and the food is a mix and match of international dishes. The house special Saint Jacques scallops are served with crispy parsnip slices, baked root vegetables, vegetable puree with pomegranate. The Arrachera beef is tender, marinated in fragrant spices and comes with simply sliced fresh and juicy mango and pineapple, and the moelleux with ice cream and crunchy nougat discs it’s a dessert not to be missed.
