Caru’ cu bere

L'avis de Gault&Millau

Chef: Dan ȚONESCU Where should you take your visiting friends for an introduction to Romanian cuisine? Whomever you may ask, the answer will probably be the same: at Caru’ cu bere. The history lesson can start with the building, which dates from 1899 and has become a landmark of Bucharest’s Old Center, with the architecture elements beautifully restored. The bustle of clients and waiters, often accompanied by live music, assures a constant festive feel. And the table can be easily filled with all kinds of traditional dishes (sarmale – sauerkraut pork rolls, bulz – polenta with cheese, some very good mititei – grilled minced meat rolls), but also specialties such as the Knight’s Dish or the Boyar’s Wish – to be enjoyed with pints of the house beer, following the recipe of the founding brewer.
